The rain slowly put out the last smoldering flames. Arah was slumped on the cold asphalt. Her wet clothes were a cloak on her shoulders, suffocating her very well-being. Her hair was plastered to her face, but she could no longer tell the distinction between her tears, the rain and the blood that streaked her face.
Why did the air smell of gasoline and death?
The night sky twinkled with a few lonely stars. Arah turned around to look, slowly, painfully; her body jerking with each gasp and sob she made. Her breathing was laboured, and heavy. The blaze of the fire created a haze around the car that was a few feet behind her. She faced forward again and let out a sob. She felt her lungs on fire.
Arah had no idea of the time. All she knew was that it was late, dark, wet and she was sitting in the middle of the highway, crying. It seemed no one else was on the road. Not one car passed. None that she noticed at least. The only light came from the car's flames and the full moon which reflected off the road.
Did she know how it happened? How her life was now disturbed and shattered and torn?
She looked behind her again; at the remains of her life, that was now burning down into ashes, and metal scraps.
Her partner, her lover.
Her offspring, her child.
Now angels on the other side.
So she hoped.
As she felt like a rejected soul, there on the roadside.
She had crawled through a broken window. The jagged glass felt like teeth piercing into her stomach; her hands; her thighs. The scraping and the puncture of her supple skin. Covered in blood, mud and water. A heathen.
Now, she was alone. And had no where to go. No one to go home to.
Arah looked up at the sky threw tear-ridden eyes. Strands of her ultimately in her way.
The moon looked waxen and wane. Pale.
She screamed into the night.
Her life now a blur.
All she felt now was pain.
